10 gigabit ethernet 'the future'

Mon 03-Nov-2008

The future of the protocol will be found in ethernet networks and 10 gigabit ethernet deployed as part of data centres, an expert claims.

Jitendra Kumar Gupta, writing for CIOL.com, states these two sectors will be the home of the "future".

Suggesting 10 gigabit ethernet technology is already beginning to see signs of development, he says many consumers are beginning to use servers which need this advance in order to deal with their most hardware-intensive applications.

He claims it is the optimum development as servers "contain multiple processing cores supporting multiple execution threads".

"Increases in server density and the requirement for high performance… make 10 gigabit vital," he asserts.

The second area he identifies, the "network edge" which is seeing 802.11n emerging, is also being adopted by businesses keen to embrace its flexibility.

Last month, Research and Markets announced it would be launching the World Telecom Equipment Markets Watch Service in order to inform its users about IT areas including outsourcing, ethernet networks and related fields.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18856262-ADNFCR
