MPLS 'can improve network speeds'
Enterprises can increase bandwidth and potentially push their businesses into the cloud by making use of multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), it has been claimed.
According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, the size of bandwidth needed by firms depends on the types of files and applications they regularly use, but generally organisations need a minimum upload speed of one megabit per second.
Chief executive of Claris Networks Paul Sponcia told reporters: "The faster [the connection] the better and a private, non-internet connection is the best."
The news provider went on to say MPLS is such a connection and uses a new internet protocol, which transfers information more efficiently and can prioritise traffic directly on the network.
Last week, research carried out by IT analyst IDC suggested the rate of growth in total worldwide IT spending including ethernet networks will remain positive next year.
The group predicts overall expansion of 2.6 per cent in the market.
