Microwave ethernet connection penetration grows

Fri 07-Nov-2008

Ethernet connection through microwave is increasing the fastest of all backhaul links, new research shows.

Figures produced by Infonetics reveal these have increased from 27 per cent of all new connections last year to 43 per cent in 2008.

It predicts these will continue "ramping up" over the next few years, citing its attractive flexibility, allowing hybrid or single package approaches to backhaul.

Principal analyst of the company, and lead on the report, Michael Howard states: "[There has been] a surge in spending on ethernet microwave in North America and a considerable uptick in ethernet in the first mile bonded copper equipment."

He suggests the ethernet portion of mobile backhaul equipment will generate a compound annual growth rate between 2007 and 2011 of 57 per cent.

According to Jitendra Kumar Gupta, who writes for CIOL.com, 10 gigabit ethernet is "the future" of networking.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18865488-ADNFCR
