Network infrastructure 'economic tweaks required'

Tue 18-Nov-2008

The UK IT industry should work together so firms can make the small and large-scale changes to network management necessary to survive the current economic crisis, it has been claimed.

According to technology solutions provider Logicalis, IT departments across the country are coming under increased financial pressure and need to draw on innovation to streamline their infrastructure and bridge budget gaps.

Director of solutions and marketing at the firm Chris Gabriel said 'tweak-onomics', or making micro-level changes to achieve macro-level performance, can enable firms to achieve business goals and maintain economic growth.

He commented that large-scale projects such as virtualisation from Intel to mainframe can also be of benefit.

Mr Gabriel added: "However, it is the adoption of tweak-onomics that is the fastest and simplest way of freeing resources and cash for investment in their bigger projects."

Last week, IT consultancy EquaTerra claimed UK enterprises should consider taking advantage of managed IT outsourcing in order to reduce overhead costs in the current economic climate.
