Protail streaming video revenue 'to reach $1.5bn'

Mon 10-Nov-2008

Advertising revenue for protail streaming video content is set to reach $75 million (£47 million) by the end of this year, research reveals.

In the past year, the amount of content of this type has increased by 600 per cent, Gartner reports.

The analyst defines protail content as streaming video which falls somewhere between professional content and user-generated material, but is characterised by higher production values and a frequently episodic nature.

Gartner predicts the advertising market surrounding this type of production will grow to $1.5 billion by 2012.

Research vice president at the company Allen Weiner claims Web 2.0 communities are likely to gather around this type of streaming video content.

He says: "Essential to protail reaching these advertising revenue figures is the establishment of effective networks that connect advertisers to large protail communities."

Spokesperson for broadband.co.uk Edd Dawson recently claimed a fall in average broadband speed was connected to the rise in streaming video content.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18868140-ADNFCR
