Technology allows data centre energy reallocation

Thu 06-Nov-2008

A new program designed to assist IT staff reallocating data centre power and cooling resources has been developed.

HP has released the Dynamic Power Capping application which intends to eliminate instances of over-provisioning these by accurately identifying demand and limiting based on this.

It claims businesses deploying this application are able to increase the number of servers operating from the same power and cooling resources by 300 per cent.

HP subsidiary EYP Mission Critical Facilities's chief executive officer Peter Gross states these developments are capable of driving down the cost of running a data centre.

"[The technology] is built on decades of innovation and experience in data centre design and deployment, resulting in solutions that empower CIOs [chief information officers] to turn energy efficiency into business benefits that impact the bottom line," he states.

A white paper has been released by the British Computer Society which intends to inform organisations energy efficiency may cost more as an initial outlay but will save money in the long-term.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18863676-ADNFCR
