World's first 100 gigabit ethernet PHY solution developed
A company has announced it has created the first 100 gigabit ethernet physical layer (PHY) solution - the NLP 10000.
NetLogic Microsystems will target the development at next-generation carriers, data centres and access networks.
Among the concerns involved in the production of the advance were the adaptability of the platform for original equipment manufacturers to use, its power consumption and form factor.
Identifying global broadband growth as one of the key factors which it expects will generate demand for the device, he states data centre and storage network firms are looking to adapt.
Vice president of physical layer products at the firm Stefanos Sidiropoulos claims the NLP 10000 presents a "revolutionary breakthrough".
"[It offers] unprecedented scalability for our market-leading family of high-performance, lower-power and low-jitter physical layer products," he states.
A recent report from Infonetics recently suggested penetration of microwave ethernet connections grew from 27 per cent to 43 per cent this year.
